Last week, while I was closing our sofa bed, Pookey got her head caught in the hinge. I immediately smelled her "perfume", and reopened the sofa. She escaped and hid under a cabinet. I got her out and was filled with horror- her head seemed crushed and had a gash, she was limp, and she seemed barely hanging on. We rushed her to a midnight visit at our vet, lightly caressing her and constantly talking to her softly to keep her aware of our love. I had little hope, but hope I had. The vet (a specialist in exotics) examined her, took x-rays and gave her pain meds and antibiotics, but on such a small creature could not do much more.
I did not sleep that night, and took the next day off, holding her, giving the meds every few hours and spoon-feeding her baby food. After a few hours she began to move around a bit, but was exhausted after a minute or so.

Tragedy Strikes

Part of the family
Well, it's been about a year and a half now. Pookey's definitely fallen into our lives. When she's awake, she likes to be the center of attention. She's very curious with new people, and sometimes comes on day trips with us, always stealing everyone's heart. The cats tolerate her. We may take her camping with us this summer.
As for her care: Her main diet is Almo Natura dry cat food, and she prefers a few small meals, which the cats usually finish- though Pookey'll chase the cats away if she's hungry. She also sometimes gets boiled chicken and occasionaly fish. She goes nuts for certain vegetables, and we just can't stop her stealing tomato, avocado, celery and bell peppers (don't tell me... there's nothing I can do to stop her). She hasn't had any health issues, though she did lose the fur on her tail at the end of the winter, and it grew back in the spring. We occasionally give her frontline flea treatment for cats.
